Staying on Disney Property vs Renting a House

Family pool time at our rental house

I have found that in order to keep my sanity, patience, and fun mom demeanor, I need a little space and adult time on vacations.  Staying in a standard hotel room for a full week with 2 kids is not ideal for us.  We typically try to find a hotel that has a 2 room suite or at the very least, a separate living area that my husband and I can hang out in once the kids are in bed.

More Cost Effective

Staying on Disney property is expensive!  We found that we could rent a 4-6 bedroom house with a private pool for less than most of the hotel rooms at Disney.  You can save money by getting groceries for breakfast, snacks, and even a few lunches or dinners.

More Relaxing

Imagine coming back to your private pool after a long, tiring day at the parks.  You don’t have to fight any more crowds or hike to the pool from your hotel room.  Enjoying our pool at night was some of the best times of our vacations.

Space = Adult Time

With a house, you can put the kiddos to bed and actually have adult time.  You can enjoy a glass of wine or beverage of your choice and sit in the hot tub reminiscing about the best moments of the day or relax in the living room and unwind with one of your favorite shows.  You don’t have to be quiet or sit in the dark in a hotel room so the kids can get a good night sleep.

Less Packing

Washers and dryers come standard with vacation home rentals so you can do your laundry mid-way through the trip, eliminating some packing.  You could also do a quick couple loads before you head home, easing the dreaded work that always comes after a vacation.

Most vacation homes are centered in a gated community offering 24 hour security with restricted access.  This will allow for peace of mind that your family and all your belongings are safe.

Community Pools

Most vacation home communities will offer large community pools, game rooms, and small convenient stores.  We have stayed at Windsor Hills in the past which offer a very large community pool with a slide.  So if you get sick of your own private pool, you have other options.

Added Luxuries of Home Rentals

  • Game Room: Most vacation home rentals come with a game room.  When the kids get tired of swimming, they can go and play a little pool, air hockey, fuse ball, darts, or whatever that home may offer.
  • Theme Rooms:  Some vacation home rentals will have theme-style bedrooms for the kids which is a huge hit!  The last house we stayed at had a pirate theme room, princess theme room, and a Mickey and Minnie theme room.  The girls rotated around each night to the different bedrooms.
  • Bunk Beds:  If your kids are anything like mine, they think bud beds are the most awesome thing when on vacation.  Some homes may offer bunk beds and if you get really lucky, there may be bunk beds in a theme room.

Wherever your vacation planning takes you, I hope you have a great time!
